Reflect Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data the Reflect app and the Reflect App Clip (together, “the app”) use and where it goes. Reflect is made by Nanda Mochammad (“I”, “me”).
The short version: your journal lives on your iPhone. It goes to iCloud only when you turn on backup or share a Space, and then it is stored in Apple’s iCloud, not on a server I read. The app has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
Data the app stores on your iPhone
Reflect saves what you create:
- Chapters (your learning topics) and the reflections inside them: text, photos, videos, voice notes and their transcripts.
- Insights: short notes and questions. These are also shared with the Reflect widget on your iPhone.
- Badges, streaks and monthly progress.
- If you start a reflection from Apple’s Journaling Suggestions, the details you choose to bring in, such as a place name and its location.
- Spaces you create or join, the questions you ask and the answers you receive.
- App settings, such as whether you finished onboarding, your display name in Spaces and when you last backed up.
This data is stored in the app’s private storage on your iPhone.
iCloud backup
iCloud backup is off until you turn it on in Settings. When it is on, the app copies your chapters, reflections, attachments and Insights to your private iCloud database. Only your Apple Account can read that database. I cannot see it. iCloud is run by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.
Spaces and feedback links
Spaces let you ask chosen people for feedback on your learning.
- When you create a Space, its questions, answers and member names are stored in iCloud and shared with the people you invite through iCloud sharing.
- When you share a feedback link, the app creates a link on nandamochammad.xyz. To make the link work for people without the app, the questions in that Space and the answers to them are copied to iCloud’s public database, where anyone who has the link can read them. Keep the link private and revoke it when you no longer need it. Revoking the link deletes it together with its public copy.
- Guests using the App Clip enter a display name and their answers. The App Clip stores a random guest ID and the display name on the guest’s own device, in the Keychain, so it can recognise them next time. Their name and answers are sent through a small service on nandamochammad.xyz, which passes them to iCloud for the Space owner. That service does not keep the answers. To stop abuse, it counts requests per IP address for about one minute.
Anything you write in a Space can be read by the other people in it.
Camera, microphone, photos and speech
- The camera and microphone are used only when you take a photo, record a video or record a voice note.
- Photos and videos you pick from your library are copied into the app. The app does not read the rest of your library.
- Voice notes can be turned into text with Apple’s speech recognition. Depending on your device and language, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple’s privacy policy.
Data I collect
I do not collect your journal, your Insights or your usage. The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking tools, and it does not sell or share your data. The only data that passes through a service I run is App Clip feedback, as explained above.
Exporting and deleting your data
- Export. Settings has an export that saves your data as a JSON file where you choose. After that, the file is under your control.
- Clear All Data. This setting removes your chapters, reflections, photos and voice notes from the iPhone.
- Delete the app. Deleting Reflect removes everything it stored on your iPhone.
- iCloud backup. To remove the backup, go to Settings, then your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage, and delete the data for Reflect.
- Spaces. You can leave a Space, and the owner can delete it. Revoke a feedback link to remove its public copy.
Reporting content
Content in a Space has a Report option. It opens a pre-filled email to me, which you send yourself. I act on objectionable content as described in the Terms of Use.
Children
Reflect is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles data changes, I will update this page and the effective date at the top.
